The theme of the overall masterplan for the 250 ha sculpture park was water, fundamental to life and how it has formed the Landscape. Water emerging from the slopes of the limestone plateau has been harnessed by man over the thousands of years, cutting channels and building terraces held by dry stone walls Restanques and Tancats or dams to retain and slow water in the valleys.

The masterplan embraces this particularity and creates a sense of scale and harmony with the landscape through the placing and conception of the land art and architecture.

Richard Serra, Sean Scully, Andy Goldsworthy, Tom Shannon, Guggi, Per Kirkeby, Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma, Richard Rogers, Renzo Piano and Frank Gehry with Tony Berlant, Oscar Niemeyer, Ai wei wei amongst others all participated with sculptures and Galleries in the Park.
